Terms of Use

Effective Alan Wizemann, LLC

ShabuBox is licensed — not sold — by Alan Wizemann, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company ("we", "us", "the developer"). These terms are the whole agreement between you and us for the app. There is no storefront EULA layered on top of them; ShabuBox is distributed directly from shabubox.com, so what follows is all of it.

The agreement

ShabuBox is a macOS application published by Alan Wizemann, LLC. It is distributed as a Developer ID signed and notarized app downloaded from shabubox.com and updated in place through Sparkle. By installing or using ShabuBox — during the trial or after purchase — you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t install it.

The software is licensed to you, not sold. We keep ownership of ShabuBox itself and everything in it; you own the license to run it, and you own everything you make with it.

License grant

Subject to these terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use ShabuBox on the Macs you own or control.

This is a per-person license, not a per-machine one. Install it on every Mac you personally use — desktop, laptop, the one in the other room. What it doesn’t cover is other people: a single license isn’t a way to outfit a team, a household of separate users, or an office. If several people need it, they each need a license.

You may not redistribute, resell, rent, lease, sublicense, or host ShabuBox for others, or make it available to anyone outside the scope above.

The trial

ShabuBox runs as a full-featured trial for 30 days with no payment and no account. Nothing is withheld, watermarked, or crippled during the trial — it is the real app on your real documents.

The trial period is a soft floor, enforced honestly rather than aggressively. We don’t fingerprint your machine, phone home on launch, or run invasive anti-piracy measures. We ask that you buy a license if you keep using ShabuBox past the trial, and we’ve built the app on the assumption that you will.

Purchase and updates

  • A license costs $24.99, once. There is no subscription and no recurring charge.
  • The license unlocks ShabuBox permanently. The build you hold keeps working for as long as it runs on your Mac — it does not expire, and it does not stop when anything else does.
  • Updates are delivered in the app as we release them.
  • Your license does not expire. It is not a subscription and there is nothing to renew.
  • Payment is processed by Paddle (Paddle.com Market Ltd) as merchant of record. See the Refund Policy for how refunds work.

License keys

After purchase we email you a cryptographically signed license file. The app validates it offline — it does not contact us to confirm that you’re allowed to run the software.

Your license key is yours to keep and not to publish. Please don’t post it, share it outside the scope of the license above, or distribute it in any form. We publish a short revocation list, checked periodically by the app, and we may revoke a license that was refunded, charged back, or obtained fraudulently. A revoked license stops unlocking ShabuBox. We do not revoke licenses for any other reason.

Restrictions

  • Don’t reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble ShabuBox, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction.
  • Don’t remove or alter copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices.
  • Don’t circumvent, disable, or tamper with the licensing or trial mechanism, or distribute tools that do.
  • Don’t use ShabuBox in violation of applicable law.

Your files are yours

ShabuBox stores your documents as ordinary files in ordinary folders on your Mac. Its database is a rebuildable index, and the app does not destructively mutate your files. You may access, move, and remove your files at any time, with or without ShabuBox — including after your license ends for any reason.

We claim no ownership of and have no access to your documents. Nothing in these terms gives us any right to their content.

Third-party components

ShabuBox includes open-source components licensed by their own authors under their own terms. Those terms govern those components and, where they conflict with these terms, they control for that component. The full acknowledgements and license texts are in the app’s About screen.

Heirloom Guarantee

The Heirloom Guarantee — under which the source of ShabuBox becomes available under MPL-2.0 if the app is truly abandoned — is incorporated into these terms by reference. Where this summary and the guarantee’s own text differ, that text controls.

Direct distribution makes that promise cleaner than it was: there is no storefront agreement sitting on top of it, and no third party whose terms could complicate handing the source over.

No warranty

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ShabuBox is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that it will correctly interpret every document you give it.

Some jurisdictions don’t allow the exclusion of certain warranties. Where that’s the case, the exclusions above apply only as far as the law permits, and your mandatory consumer rights are unaffected.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of or inability to use ShabuBox. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability under these terms is limited to the amount you paid for your license.

Please keep your own backups. Your files are ordinary files on your Mac, which means ordinary backup tools — Time Machine, a cloned drive, whatever you already trust — cover them completely. No software should be the only copy of anything you care about, and ShabuBox is deliberately built so it never has to be.

Termination

You may stop using ShabuBox at any time; simply delete the app. Your documents stay where they are.

This license terminates automatically if you materially breach these terms and do not cure the breach within a reasonable period after we notify you. On termination you must stop using ShabuBox and remove it from your Macs. The sections on ownership, warranty, liability, and governing law survive termination.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country of residence.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms for future versions or future purchases. When we do, we’ll change the effective date at the top of this page. Changes are not retroactive: the terms in force when you bought your license continue to govern that license, and your continued use of a version you already have does not bind you to newer terms.
