Better table reading — printed table rows are rebuilt from the page's own layout, so a bill's ENDING BALANCE stays attached to its own figure instead of drifting to the next line. When a first reading of a page comes back thin, ShabuBox tries a sharper one and keeps whichever reads better.

A one-time background re-read — the first launch after upgrading starts re-reading your existing library in the background. The app stays usable throughout, it resumes wherever it stopped if you quit, results sharpen as it goes, and it only ever replaces text it improved. Typically overnight for a large library; the sidebar shows progress. Documents iCloud has moved off your Mac are fetched and re-read when they arrive, not skipped.

The right figure from the right document — a total printed beside its adjustments no longer contributes the wrong column; the passage that actually carries an amount makes it into consideration instead of being crowded out; a single form box is answered rather than summed; and the same bill from different months is told apart by date even when the filename has no leading zeros.

Same question, same answer — an identical question no longer surfaces a different supporting passage after a relaunch when two passages tied exactly. Ties resolve the same way every time.

The Inbox is a view of Files — same rows, selection, bulk bar and row menu, so everything you can do to a filed document you can do to an inbox one: rename, tag, refile, Generate titles, Reduce Resolution. Searches, Addresses, Entities and a pin on the Map open the same full browser with sorting, filtering, split view and bulk actions.

Select all N — with a page selected, one click escalates to the whole filtered set. In split view a click moves the preview cursor without disturbing your selection.

Pick your scanner — Settings → Scanner lists every scanner ShabuBox can see, marks which are supported, remembers your choice, and names it in the Inbox's Scan menu. A ScanSnap on USB is never passed over for a network scanner. The ScanSnap iX2500 joins the supported list.

Diagnosed, not timed out — a scanner that is busy, held by ScanSnap Home, unresponsive because its Wi-Fi is on, or blocked by macOS is named immediately with the fix, instead of a two-minute wait ending in a generic error. The diagnostic report now includes the USB bus.

Curation merges instead of overwriting — stars, notes, tags, custom fields and collections edited on two Macs sharing an iCloud library used to erase each other in turn. Every edit is now stamped per field and a merge can no longer delete the other Mac's change.

Conflict copies are parked — an iCloud "conflicted copy" is set aside in the Trash, named as such, instead of being indexed as a second document.

Share this Mac's search index — an off-by-default switch under Settings → General publishes this Mac's index into the library for your other devices, shows how much space each Mac's index takes, and lets you remove one. A second experimental switch under Curation Sync lets this Mac apply edits made on your other devices.

An older ShabuBox can't damage a newer library — the app refuses to open a library last used by a newer version, and says so, instead of silently rebuilding its index without the newer columns.

A full disk is not a corrupt library — the two are told apart at launch and the library is left untouched when the disk is full. Repair Library lists the index backups it set aside so you can reclaim the space, and a rescan stops and asks when the whole library folder disappears rather than treating every document as deleted.

Quieter logs — file names and document contents no longer appear in the system log in the clear.

Watch scanner — press the scan button on the scanner itself, or just drop paper in the feeder, and ShabuBox starts the scan for you. No need to switch back to the app first.

Reduce Resolution — shrink scanned PDFs in place, one document or in bulk with a cancel button. Size is measured before and after so you can see what you saved, and the pass only ever shrinks — never enlarges — a page. It's permanent — the library file is the only copy — so ShabuBox asks first.

Split view — your document list sits beside a full-height live preview, so you can page through a stack of scans without opening each one. Arrow keys move the cursor and the preview follows.

Smarter auto-rotation — orientation is now decided by the axis of the text itself first, with sparse pages that used to get flipped wrong now recovered correctly.

Edge-shadow trim — the thin tapered shadow that sheet-fed scanners leave along one edge is shaved off, instead of riding along as a dark sliver on every page.

Jam recovery — a stuck feed is detected and surfaced with a Reset Scanner action, instead of a scan that silently stalls.

ScanSnap conflict detection — ShabuBox notices when ScanSnap Home is holding the scanner and walks you through the fix, including a Quit for me button and the Apple Events permission prompt it needs.

Save Diagnostic Bundle — one action packages the logs a scanner problem needs, ready to attach to a support email.

Find Anything filter mode — the ⌘K palette can now run as a natural-language filter, with a See All Results view that lands in the Searches sidebar and a plain-English explanation of why each match qualified.

Finder tags import — every way a file can enter your library — drag-in or watched folder — now carries its Finder tags with it, instead of only some of them.

iCloud sync — opt in with Sync with iCloud under Settings → General (Library & Storage) to keep your library current across Macs, and opt back out just as cleanly; ShabuBox always shows you the honest state of what has and hasn't synced.

Color fidelity — the capture mode you scanned with now travels with the page through processing, and grayscale or line-art originals are kept to a single color channel instead of being upsampled to color.

Byte-identical rescan dedupe — rescanning the same page twice is recognized and skipped instead of adding a duplicate.

Anonymous usage statistics — ShabuBox now sends anonymous counts of which screens and features get used and how often, along with your app version, macOS version, Mac model, language and region, so development effort goes where it actually helps. Everything is tied to a random install ID that is hashed before it leaves your Mac. It goes to our own service and to no third party.

What it never contains — your documents, file names, folder paths, note text, search queries, tag or entity names, addresses, chat messages, or anything else you typed. No IP addresses are stored and no location is collected. The app can only emit events from a fixed, published list, and every value on them is a preset code, a true/false flag, or a count rounded into a range — so there is no code path that could carry your text.

Turning it off — Settings → General → Privacy → Share anonymous usage statistics. Collection stops immediately and anything queued but unsent is discarded. Full detail in the privacy policy.

Faster everywhere — PDF pages now stream instead of loading whole. Scanning itself moved off the main thread so the app stays responsive while it works.

Renaming, collections, and notes — renames apply correctly, collections survive a reindex, and notes keep their identity across edits instead of occasionally detaching.

Refile and licensing hardening — drag-to-refile is more reliable, and the license and certificate-revocation checks behind updates were hardened.

Crooked scans are finally straight — the deskew engine was rebuilt end to end. It had been measuring skew in a distorted coordinate space, over-rotating portrait pages by ~29% and nudging near-straight pages visibly crooked. Angles are now measured correctly, badly skewed pages (up to 30°) get corrected instead of skipped, rotation never clips ink at the page edge, and the page is cropped back to the paper afterward. Validated against a corpus of real scanner output.

Long paper support — Long paper (receipts, legal) in Settings → Scanner asks the scanner for its longest page instead of stopping at letter length. The scanner detects the end of the sheet; if it can't, ShabuBox safely falls back to normal length. Long pages also pass through image cleanup without being cropped, rotated sideways, or dropped as blank.

Whitened edge bands removed — pages from white-backed sheet feeders no longer keep a strip of scanner backing on the edge, even when the backing is nearly the same color as the paper.

Reprocess with feedback — Reprocess scan now remembers how a page was originally scanned and treats it the same way, and every view shows a live “Processing…” indicator while it runs.

Favorites, notes, and custom fields — star documents, attach free-form notes, and define your own typed fields, including a currency type with proper money formatting.

Typed tables — documents of the same type (statements, receipts, invoices…) can be viewed as a sortable table of their fields, with column sorting.

Inspector redesign — a cleaner document inspector, unified collections, and faster search.

Trustworthy file identity — the content-hash identity behind deduplication and thumbnails was hardened end to end: thumbnails can no longer show the wrong document’s content, rescans update atomically, and a save race can no longer lose a thumbnail.

Solid-black scans with Auto-levels — pages with dense black text or off-white paper could collapse the contrast stretch and render entirely black. The stretch is now mathematically incapable of failing this way, and mid-tones come out more faithful everywhere.

Background cleanup darkened pages — the whitening filter had its color adjustment inverted, darkening every page it touched instead of lifting the paper color to white. Gray and tinted paper now cleans up to a proper white background with text left dark.

Confidence gating — GLiNER extractions now carry confidence scores, and low-confidence guesses are skipped instead of cluttering your entity list.

Reprocess Entities in Settings → Maintenance re-runs extraction on every document in the library, so accuracy improvements apply retroactively.

Noise filter round two catches kinship terms, document roles, and structure labels that slipped through the first pass. Concurrent reprocess and typing passes no longer collide.

Scan image processing pipeline — a multi-step chain cleans up scanned pages before OCR, improving text extraction on noisy or skewed originals.

Actionable USB error messages — when a scan fails, the alert tells you what went wrong and what to try, instead of a generic error.

Drag to refile — drop files onto sidebar folders to move them where they belong.

Repair Library now surfaces pruned tombstones in its summary. The postal-address fold self-heals when its bookkeeping outlives the table.

Map section — every address extracted from your documents, geocoded offline from a bundled Census gazetteer. Three-tier collapse by state and city, an evidence-picked filter to narrow by person, and tap any pin to jump to the source document.

Addresses as a fourth entity kind alongside people, organizations, and places — browsable from the Entities sidebar with the same list-and-detail pattern.

Address normalizer — standardizes and deterministically groups address variants so "123 Main St" and "123 Main Street, Apt 2" cluster together.

Light, Dark, or Follow the Mac — choose in Settings. Every design token adapts, from accents through elevated surfaces, backed by an appearance-parameterized snapshot harness.

On-device document summaries — per-collection, with LLM summaries and larger thumbnails. Sensitive documents route through the local model; clean ones use Apple Intelligence.

Notes section with inline add, and a Timeline toggle between added date and document date.

Summaries now persist across navigation instead of re-summarizing from zero.

Trash and Duplicates sections in the sidebar, with bulk Restore and Delete Permanently.

Re-adding a deleted file restores it. Interrupted deletes finish. Tombstones can't be filed out of the trash. Restored files are fully re-indexed.

Help → Report an Issue — in-app issue filing via GitTickets, with a privacy-aware relay. My Reports lets you check on them without leaving the app.

"Most capable local model" ceiling — opt into a larger chat model, gated by available RAM, with explicit consent before any large download.

Scanning, ingestion, and entity extraction are more resilient: timeboxed OCR, real download timeouts, and a stalled inbox row never locks the user out.
